In this article we are going to show you how to repair paint damage on a side mirror. The process is simple enough that anyone can do it, and it only takes about 40 minutes.
What you need:
- Factory-matched paint in a spray can
- Automotive spray primer
- Automotive spray clear coat
- Wax and grease remover
- Scuff pad
- Cleaning towel
- Masking tape and paper
Step 1. Clean & Scuff Mirror
Clean the entire mirror with wax and grease remover, then scuff the entire area with a scuff pad.
Step 2. Mask Area
Mask off the surrounding areas.
Step 3. Prime Mirror
Apply one or two coats of primer.
Step 4. Paint Mirror
Wait 10-15 minutes for the primer to dry, then apply as many coats of our factory-matched paint as neccessary to cover the primer. You can use a piece of cardboard to block paint overspray.
Step 5. Clearcoat Mirror
Wait 5 minutes for the paint to dry, then apply multiple light coats of clearcoat from a distance of about 8-10 inches. Be sure to apply it to the entire mirror assembly.
Step 6. Cleanup
Wait 10 minutes for the clearcoat to dry, remove the masking, and you are ready to go.
