How to Repair Scratched Plastic Door Panels with Spray Paint

In this article we are going to show you how to repair damaged plastic door panels. The process is simple enough that anyone can do it, and it only takes about 40 minutes.

Step 1. Scuff & Clean Area

Scuff the damaged area and the area around it a grey scuff pad, then clean it with grease and wax remover.

Step 2. Sand Area

Sand the damaged area with 220-grit sandpaper until the scratch is smoothed out, then remove any dust with your cleaning towel.

Step 3. Prime Area

Apply a few light coats of primer.

Step 4. Apply Paint

Wait 10-15 minutes for the primer to dry, then apply a few coats of factory-matched spray paint. Apply it lightly, and pause frequently to avoid causing the paint to run.

Step 5. Apply Clearcoat

Wait 5 minutes for the paint to dry, then apply two coats of clearcoat. Use steady horizontal motions, overlapping the previous pass about 50% each time.
